Teens & Sex
Teenagers are roses unfolding, but sometimes
it's hard to see beyond the thorns because
adolescents, especially those about 12 to 15,
are usually rebellious.  Substance abuse,
sexual activities and offenses, gang and
domestic violence and juvenile delinquencies
are a fact of life in today's society -- especially
in teenagers' world. At some time teens are
going to have to make choices concerning
these issues, just like they have to make
choices about clothes, cars, careers and

friendships.

In junior high and high school, boys plot ways
to gain sexual experience and many times
expose their adventures to their peers; girls
have to decide whether to make out or protect
their reputation.

The rules of sexuality have changed. Today's
teenagers have a different set of values about
sex, easier access to contraceptives and
abortion and less fears about sexually
transmitted diseases such as herpes and
HIV/AIDS.  While sex may be easier to come
by today, without proper education, it can also
literally kill.

Teens must learn to establish and maintain
positive attitudes.    A good way of becoming
aware of attitudes about yourselves is to look
at how you talk to yourselves.  Teens who get
caught up in self-deafeating attitudes often say
things to themselves like:  "I'm just too
dumb," "I'm too ugly," "I'm too slow," "No
one cares about me," "If I don't do what
he
wants, then he'll leave me,"  "Nothing matters
anymore."  These negative self-talk reinforce
patterns  provide immediate excuses for
irrational behaviors and keep the teen trapped.
These are the exact excuses teens use to
become involved in premarital sexual
activities.  Having sex can wound friendships
and separate friends
.  The result of this sort of
attitude will always guarantee disaster.

Speaking positive things about yourselves,
such as, "I am wonderfully and fearfully made
and I will save my virginity to present to my
husband on our wedding night," will result in
advantages, privileges and prosperities.
